Allison Crowe performances: $15,000 VideoFact award, debut album and tour plans advancing
Earlier this month Allison Crowe (piano/vocals) and her band-mates, Dave Baird (bass) and Kevin Clevette (drums), entered Turtle Recording studios in White Rock, B.C. With the generous assistance of FACTOR (The Foundation to Assist Canadian Talent on Records ~ funded by 16 sponsoring broadcasters and Canada’s federal government), the band completed a new, four-song, demo. As well, they began the process of recording their debut album. Over a two week period Crowe’s trio laid down the bed tracks for more than a dozen original songs: "Midnight", "Fade Away", "Unstable", "Disease", "Delay", "Philosophy", "Fallen", "Shadows", "Scared", "Dark Blue", "Fire", "Crayon and Ink", & "On the Air." From this selection, it's anticipated that 11 tracks will form the album to be titled "midnight syren". (The album name, in part, acknowledges Allison's computer/internet personae). Larry Anschell (Pearl Jam, Sarah McLachlan, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Bif Naked, Maximum Jazz artists) is producing and engineering the "idnight syren" essions. Allison and her trio re-enter Turtle studios next week, on March 4, to continue recording this debut disc. Mixing and mastering will complete the process in April/May 2002. The band is also looking forward to advancing with a recent award of $15,000 CDN from VideoFACT (A Foundation to Assist Canadian Talent, funded entirely by the MuchMusic Network). A VideoFACT jury has given the green light to creation of a music video for the song "Midnight". The creative visual force behind this project is lensman Alex Postowoi. Alex has been behind the camera for many dozens of feature films, television series, tv movies-of- the-week, commercials, documentaries and film shorts. He's worked on videos for such artists as Bif Naked, Jann Arden, Joan Armatrading, Copyright and the Matthew Good Band. As producer/director, Alex plans to shoot "Midnight" on film (not videotape). Filming will begin not long after recording wraps on "midnight syren". Allison’s first cross-country tour is about to be rescheduled to make more room for the band’s album, video and a precious baby – due to be born to the band’s drummer, Kevin, and his partner, Heather, in May. Canadian theatre and club dates (and select U.S. concerts) will go ahead as planned – they’ll just happen a few months later than originally designed.
