Darkness Falls (Garber review)

8-bomb ???

Review by Anne Garber

Here's a perfect case of a movie that will find success only because the television ads make it look far more interesting and scary than it is. I should know: I fell for it, and despite his better instincts about it, I dragged my film-critic-spouse off to join me in this colossal waste of time! The film's money-people are no doubt praying that the word-of-mouth doesn't spread too fast on this dud -- but not if I have anything to say about that.

I won't even bore you with the premise -- okay, it's all about the Tooth Fairy being courted into the Dark Side of the Force. Enough said. The substance of my analysis of Darkness Falls is this: It isn't scary; it's stupid. There is no character development -- heck, some characters appear mere minutes before they are snuffed. There's no coherent storyline, or any reason why anything in this appalling mess of a "thriller" happens. You really won't give a rat's ass about anyone in this movie, either. Come to think of it -- a scary movie and nary a rat to be found! Those rats must have found a more appealing way to spend 90 minutes down the street at Final Destination 2.

And for you dating guys who think this will make your girl cuddle up and cling in fear -- forget it. There isn't even any kitschy or high-camp value to make her laugh.

In summary: A washout, flop, letdown, disappointment, failure. Save your money, friends. This one blows, bigtime.
