Doug Alexander is a BC-born travel writer and journalist who caught the travel bug early in life when his parents took him to Hawaii in grade school. After graduating from the University of British Columbia, Doug spent a year working as a cruise-ship photographer, giving him a chance to explore Alaska, the Caribbean, Central America and South America, before returning to Canada to pursue his journalism career. His interest in working abroad, however, eventually led him to overseas work for a London-based news agency, including a posting in Cairo. His assignments took him throughout the Middle East, Europe and South Asia, where he embraced every opportunity to learn about local cultures, history and pen a few travelogues along the way. He has since returned to Canada, where he currently lives with his wife and two children. His work has appeared in Canadian Geographic, Diver Magazine, Archaeology Odyssey, BBC History, Geographical, the Beaver Magazine and in many newspapers, including the Globe and Mail, National Post and the Christian Science Monitor.
